PICU Guidelines for Parents & Attendants

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a specialized area where children requiring intensive care and close monitoring are treated. To maintain a safe, hygienic and peaceful environment, please follow all PICU guidelines carefully.

Not following these precautions can increase the risk of contracting new diseases from external germs, make treatment more difficult and extend a patient’s hospital stay.

Important PICU entry guidelines

Please follow these instructions before entering the PICU.

Before you enter

  1. Wear acap, mask and slippers.
  2. Follow all7 steps of handwashing.
  3. Dry your hands with the paper provided in the tray and dispose of it in the dustbin.
  4. Wear theblue gownprovided in the steel drum.
  5. Sanitize your handsbefore and after touching the patient or the patient’s belongings.

Not allowed

  1. Do not enter wearing a cap, muffler, gamchha, scarf, shawl, burqa, coat or full sweater.
  2. Do not bring bags inside the PICU.
  3. Only one parent is allowed inside. Visitors should be discouraged from entering.

PICU hygiene & infection prevention

Maintaining proper hygiene is essential inside the PICU. Parents and attendants should carefully follow the hospital’s handwashing, hand sanitization and protective gown instructions.

 

Do not consume food or beverages inside the PICU. Food is permitted only for patients. Leftover food should be discarded in the black dustbin near the washbasin. Do not throw leftover food into the washbasin and do not wash utensils there.

 

Before entering the toilet, remove the blue gown and hang it on the designated peg. When leaving the PICU, remove the blue gown and place it in the large bin. Keep slippers on the designated stand.

Guidelines for PICU Parents & Attendants

Children in the PICU require special care, rest and a calm environment. Please follow these guidelines throughout your stay.

Maintain a Quiet Environment

All patients require special care and rest. Maintain silence and allow patients to rest in a calm and quiet environment.

 

Avoid Phone Conversations

Avoid talking on the phone inside the PICU, as it can disturb patients and other caretakers.

 

Do Not Charge Mobile Phones Inside the PICU

Avoid charging your phone inside the PICU. According to the hospital instructions, charging may damage your phone as well as delicate ICU equipment and wiring.

 

Photography & Videography Are Prohibited

Photography or videography of any kind is strictly prohibited inside the PICU.
